Advent is my favorite season – it is a time of prayerful waiting and expectation.

Advent helps me take the time to sit and reflect. This gives me a sense of hope, even when times are filled with conflicts.

Michigan winters with snow gracing the landscape is breathtaking, crisp and refreshing!

My favorite Advent scripture passage is from Isaiah 11:

Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb
and the leopard shall lie down with the kid.
The calm and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them.

This is the Messianic dream. If only this could be the dream of our world.

This dream might seem impossible in these days of racism, conflict and prejudice.

But with hope we keep this as our focus and our vision.

And daily we take small steps toward making this vision, this hope, a reality!

Join us this Advent Season and Discover
Christ-Light: Light of the World

While we will miss gathering in community in the chapels at Marywood, please know that the Order of Preachers is praying mightily during these days when we remember that the hope and movement from darkness to light is a wonderous gift that God gave to the whole world.

During this coming Advent Season, please enjoy our weekly Advent messages from the Dominican Sisters~Grand Rapids. We hope they calm and inspire you to invite and shine the Light of the Word in our World.

Each Saturday, from Nov. 28 – Dec. 24, Sister Mary Ann Barrett offers prayer about the Christ-Light that shines on one and all.

Whatever darkness hovers in our personal lives,
Whatever darkness hovers over our world community,
We turn to you, Christ, as our Light on the path forward.
