With the days of the COVID-19 crisis stretching out, Annie, the great-niece of Sister Rose Mary Belanger OP began missing her aunt. Because the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids are sheltering-in-place, Annie had to be creative in how she showed Sister Rose Mary how much she is missed and loved.
Annie took action and reached out to Dominican Center via Facebook. Sister Rose Mary’s great-niece asked if she and a few of her family members could come to the Marywood campus to create chalk drawings and inspirational messages for her aunt and other Sisters to see.
Late on a Thursday morning in April, Annie and her family members arrived wearing masks and practicing social distancing and went right to work. Sisters gathered in Marywood’s atrium to watch as the chalk drawings and meaningful messages took shape.
Many thanks to the family of Sister Rose Mary Belanger for the colorful art and for thinking of Sister Rose Mary and the other Dominican Sisters, who were delighted with this act of kindness and love during this time of pandemic.
