The volume on Proverbs in the Wisdom Commentary Series, edited by Barbara Reid, OP, won not only the best book in Scripture, but also the best book of the year from the Association of Catholic Publishers. The “Book of the Year” is chosen from among the first-place finishers of 16 categories.

According to an ACP new release: From the Scripture category, Proverbs by Alice Ogden Bellis took the top honor. Judges commented that this book adds “significant diversity to the market of biblical commentaries” and is “a huge undertaking, taking the next step in writing that updates all of the earlier work on biblical research from a feminist point of view.” They noted that the volume was greatly enhanced by extra features on topics like “Translation Matters” and “Excursus.”

Editor Barbara Reid, OP, a member of the Dominican Sisters~Grand Rapids, was the primary editor of Proverbs. She is general editor of another 17 volumes in the series. Reid is also Professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, has served on the CTU faculty since 1988. She has served as Vice President and Academic Dean and has been actively involved in the Association of Theological Schools, including service on their Board of Directors.
