As vowed women religious and as a Congregation, it is the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching that have called the Dominican Sisters~Grand Rapids to bear witness to the dignity of every human person.
The Direction Statements of our Congregation guide our preaching and teaching; all based in the Gospel call. In the days ahead, we invite you to view or revisit our directions in ministry, the basis of our preaching and teaching.
Dominican prayer, study, community, and service are pillars, guide posts, of how we choose to be present in the world. This means that we remind ourselves to study, contemplate, dialogue in community, and pray. In this way, we seek Truth, by listening to witness on Earth and listening for God’s voice on our hearts about matters of the world.
For our Congregation, the opportunities to live the Gospel through preaching and teaching continues. We respect that the ways of justice preaching and teaching are as varied as each Sister. Individual responses to the call to justice are very personal.
The justice ministry of the Congregation informs and intertwines justice advocacy with the world-wide Order of Preachers, the Roman Catholic Church, and other entities with which we collaborate.
None of us can know all things; and so, by creating opportunities to BE WITH others, we share relationship and contemplative dialogue in community. Our ministries of Dominican Center and Sunday Assembly are ministries of relationship. Many programs and gatherings “carry” justice themes to others with the intention that Gospel preaching and teaching will ripple outward. We suggest the pillars of study, contemplation, prayer, and community as paths for all persons to discover transformative experiences.
Dominican Associate Life is another path. Dominican Associates are non-vowed women and men who desire to practice their Christian faith in the spirit of the Dominican Order of Preachers. More than 150 Associates have made commitment to Associate Life, supporting one another and bringing Dominican values to their family, community, place of worship and workplace.
Jesus came to BE WITH us on Earth. We follow in his footsteps, every day, by BEING WITH you, by being with all.
