“Coping with hope is an acquired skill — especially when it comes to cancer,” says journalist Sue Schroder.

That indomitable cope with hope spirit is the legacy of Dominican Sister Sue Tracy, OP, who shared a friendship and camaraderie with Sue Schroder, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2009 and is now in remission.

“Sister Sue Tracy, the inspiration for this blog, was a veteran … not to mention one of the funniest women I’ve ever met,” writes Sue Schroder.

Today, in Her Story, we share a story of two Sues and other friends. Thank you for keeping Sister Sue’s memory in our hearts and influence in our lives.

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Kazoos by Sue Schroder

This photo of Sister Sue Tracy, triumphant at “graduating” after her 16th and final chemo, made it into Delinda Brock’s Book of Life. As the accidental musical minion who shot this photo, I can’t resist telling the backstory of how close pomp came to being silenced by circumstance.

Today on my blog, Cope with Hope on https://copewithhopecanceredition.com, Delinda Brock and I reflect on the moments behind some of our favorite photos— and the wisdom Sister Sue left with us when she died a year ago this week.

My thanks to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids and my fellow members for supporting this project to share the legacy left by the member of the Dominican Sisters Grand Rapids.
