Dominican Center Marywood invests in developing Spiritual Directors through our three-year Foundations in Spirituality and Spiritual Director Practicums process. As part of our ongoing call and commitment, we also cultivate the community and transformation of trained Spiritual Directors. We host the following formational gatherings for Directors’ soul care and growth.

Tending the Call:

Began February 3

In the fall and spring we offer an online twice-monthly gathering of Spiritual Directors to study, pray, and share as we read a book together contemplatively. We are currently reading:

Ronald Rolheiser’s Sacred Fire: A Vision for a Deeper Human and Christian Maturity

 

The next season will begin in September and registration will open in the summer!

Deepening the Call

 

We offer a variety of retreats designed to serve the Spiritual Director’s soul, some geared towards skills within the profession, others to hold the space for soul care in this caretaking, sacred work.

Broadening the Call

Spiritual Director Development Series

Thursdays, May 7 & 21, 2026 at 6:30 – 8:30pm in-person

The in-person “Spiritual Director Development Series” is a skill building formational opportunity for spiritual directors. This year the workshops are focused on Deepening Presence through Internal Family Systems Theory and Understanding Trauma without Losing the Spirit: Listening to the Soul Beneath the Symptom. Thurs. June 4 at 6-8:30pm

Spiritual Directors will gather for dinner and conversation on our consultation questions. If you’ve ever wanted to have a community to share ideas on some of those practical questions that emerge, this is your opportunity! Submit your question below!

A Spiritual Director’s consultation question is about improving skill, often beginning with “What” or “How”, whereas questions to bring to supervision focus on interior movements within the director.

For example: How do I make a referral to a therapist? What are ideas for dealing with non-payment?

Spiritual Direction Room

 

Dominican Center Marywood offers a space for Spiritual Directors to meet with directees in our upstairs loft area. There are two comfortable chairs, a few side tables and lamps, a window, and a Bible. Be aware that there is no elevator, and the Center is not air-conditioned in the summer, however we have a fan for your use. There is also a noise-canceling machine. “Tending the Call is meant to be a source of nourishment for Spiritual Directors. The intersection of readings and community-building between spiritual directors helps deepen and support our individual practices. We unpack the readings together, through reflection questions and guided group discussion with the hope that we go deeper personally and are reminded of the Spirits deep work within all of us [and throughout time]. It is our prayer that after these 6 weeks, each person comes away with a sense of confirmation in the work they are doing, as meaningful, and fostering a deeper connection to the Spirit.”
