GRAND RAPIDS, MI – December 13, 2021 . . . Dominican Center at Marywood, a ministry of the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids, is moving west down the street from the Marywood Campus at 2025 Fulton Street East to the Aquinas College campus at 1700 Fulton Street East.
“Come January 3, 2022, Dominican Center Marywood at Aquinas College will open in what historically was the Bukowski Pastoral Center,” said Prioress Sandra Delgado, OP. “This building has been re-formed to house ministry offices, space for programs and retreat experiences, community gatherings, and prayer.”
Since 1993 thousands of sincere seekers throughout the United States have participated in Dominican Center’s spirituality programs, contemplative retreats, prayer experiences, and support from spiritual directors. Dominican Center will continue to offer transformative experiences of hope, faith, learning, and renewal to people of all faiths in true Dominican spirit.
“We are excited to walk beside Aquinas College—a sister ministry founded by the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids. May this new space on campus offer new dimensions in the intersection of study, prayer, community, and service to the Aquinas community of students, staff, and faculty, and with other partners and friends,” said Sister Delgado.
“The Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids established the mission of Aquinas College, and we are pleased to have their prominent presence on our campus,” said Marissa Sura, associate vice president for marketing and communication. “As a distinctively Catholic and Dominican institution, Aquinas College’s close relationship with the Sisters has provided true and lasting guidance.”
While the pandemic forced the closure of the ministry’s conference services arm in 2020, the Center pivoted to a virtual format. With its new location at Aquinas College, Dominican Center programs will be offered virtually and on-site as the staff continues to plan for and research safe ways to hold in-person, socially distanced programs for small groups. “We embrace the ways technology continues to help us widen our reach, and we celebrate the new opportunities afforded by the space and grace of this new place,” says Diane Zerfas OP, spirituality program coordinator at Dominican Center Marywood.
Plans and people are in motion for a December move. In the new year, Dominican Center Marywood at Aquinas College will host gatherings for all who have shared the journey, especially the spiritual directors, presenters, and participants, as well as the wider circle of friends who want to explore the Center’s new dreaming.
