January 22, 2023 was the 2nd anniversary of the enforceable Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

I joined witness and advocacy actions this week as we called upon the United States to sign this treaty to ban nuclear weapons.

Sixty eight (68) countries have now ratified it and another 24 countries are actively in the process of ratification.

I celebrated this anniversary Sunday at the White House as we delivered a letter to President Biden signed by more than 100 organizations. These signatures were gathered in a 48-hour period of time.

Monday, January 23, we delivered copies of the treaty to 17 new Congress people in the House, all Democrats and part of the Progressive Caucus. Two of them were from Michigan: Hillary Scholten and Shri Thenadar. We concluded this day of advocacy with a one-hour meeting with Congressman James P. McGovern (D) who will introduce a resolution regarding TPNW next week. We plan to make additional deliveries to others.

Tuesday, January 24, we delivered a certificate of appreciation and a yellow rose with baby breath bouquet to the embassies of the nine new countries that ratified the treaty this past year. I personally visited the embassies of: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, Malawi, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Republic of Congo and Cote d’Voire.

We heard some beautiful stories from our U.S. congresspersons and ambassadors from these countries.

January 24 was also the release of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists Doomsday Clock which was moved from 100 seconds to midnight to now 90 seconds to midnight.

They were long days with lots of walking; the witness and struggle continues. We are grateful, as always, for prayers and support.
