SisterJanice Mankowski

My favorite Scripture passage remains that of Jeremiah. “I know the plans I have in mind for you. . . plans to give you a future full of hope.”

I was born and raised in Gaylord, Michigan. I come from a large Polish family where faith and family were very important to us. There were eleven of us and all were educated by our Dominican Sisters.

One of my fondest memories is that of my Mom at age 92 kneeling by her bed saying her night prayers. That was very humbling for me.

My life has been filled with many challenging opportunities: teacher, school administrator, pastoral administrator and pastoral minister. Yet life seems to have come full circle and I am now teaching again. . . English to speakers of other languages.

My faith formation, my education, and the opportunities to travel have all been gifts of this community and I am grateful. I am an avid reader, a daily walker and a seasoned traveler.

Leaving active ministry, I served as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House for ten years. At present, I tutor in the WORD ~ ESL program and also teach citizenship classes. This is very fulfilling work which helps our immigrants on their journey to become U.S. citizens.
