Dominican Center’s Ministry of Spiritual Direction has been a beacon of hope for many in the chaos and confusion of Covid time.

Direction is not about giving answers but about helping people see God at work in their lives.

I have been doing direction for over 30 years and serving at Dominican Center for 15 years. I am encouraged by all that I see fruiting from our two-year Dominican Center Spiritual Direction Practicum. I love watching contemplative prayer and the peer group process invite people to trust the Spirit. Month by month, class by class, each person finds their way into the heart of God by journeying with others.

This year Zoom has broadened our reach beyond West Michigan. I have worked with directees from Toronto, Washington, California, and the Greater Grand Rapids area.

This past weekend, the Dominican Sisters~Grand Rapids and Dominican Center celebrated six newly certified spiritual directors upon their completion of the 2-year Practicum experience. Our Practicum participants were blessed this year with an invitation to provide direction for former Jesuit volunteers. These young people already had an experience of Ignatian spirituality, a spirituality that raises awareness to God’s presence in everyday life. They appreciated having someone to journey with them as they are beginning their own ministerial lives.
