Saint Series Presents Elizabeth Ann Seton

Elizabeth Ann Seton – 1774-1821 – Vowed Religious, Founder of an Order, & Saint

On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, Grand Rapids Dominican Associate Liz Klas presents this program featuring the life of Elizabeth Ann Seton.

The following facts only give us a brief glimpse of Seton’s life. Liz Klaz will present a deeper look at the life of the first native born American to be canonized by the Catholic Church.

  • On March 25, 1809, Elizabeth Seton pronounced her vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
  • Seton’s favorite prayer was the 23rd Psalm and she developed a deep devotion to the Eucharist, Sacred Scripture, and the Virgin Mary.
  • She was beatified by Pope John XXIII on March 17, 1963 and was canonized on September 14, 1975 by Pope Paul VI. She was the first native born American to be canonized by the Catholic Church.
