Our WORD~ESL team provides English as a Second Language services to enable individuals to improve quality of life and become more active in their community. Strengthening English language skills improves relationships and performance in home, school, and work environments.

WORD stands for Writing Opportunities, Reading Discoveries which refers to the transformative nature of our program. ESL helps adults become more fluid at speaking English and developing skills reading and writing. We offer a safe, welcoming environment to develop and improve basic English language skills. We also offer Individual tutoring for professionals, i.e., doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, accountants, and more. Small group classes and computer assisted learning are also available.

Citizenship Classes

WORD also offers Citizenship Classes in collaboration with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). Saturday morning classes are available at GRCC Tassel M-Tec Center for anyone preparing for the U.S. Citizenship Exam. In order to be eligible, you must have a permanent residence card (green card) for five years, and be able to speak, read and write in Advance ESL level 3 (CASAS testing) and attend an orientation.
