Those who lived through the US nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago are courageous and committed to work for the end of nuclear weapons. Sharing their stories, time and time again, gives us the opportunity to try and understand just a fraction of what they’ve gone through.
ICAN, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, works with survivors and others to promote adherence to and implementation of the United Nations nuclear weapon ban treaty.

ICAN is the international campaign to stigmatise, prohibit & eliminate nuclear weapons.
The truth about nuclear weapons: catastrophic harm, existential threat
Nuclear weapons are the most inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created. They violate international law, cause severe environmental damage, undermine national and global security, and divert vast public resources away from meeting human needs. They must be eliminated urgently.
Survivors of nuclear weapons, including Nihon Hidankyo, the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, have spent their lives calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Today, they ask just one thing of us:
Share our stories. Carry our memory. Continue our fight. Through Cranes of Memory, and in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center and others, we honour their legacy, and take up the torch.
