Kicking off Dominican Days 2023, the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids will welcome seven new Associates. The commitment ceremony is at 6:30 pm in Chapel of the Word at Marywood today, Wednesday, August 2.
An Associate heart is a servant heart — so needed in our world today.
Dominican Associates are non-vowed women and men who desire to practice their Christian faith in the spirit of the Dominican Order of Preachers. More than 150 Associates have made commitment to Associate Life, supporting one another and bringing Dominican values to their family, community, place of worship and workplace.
Each new Associate has participated in a group formation process for one year year with the support of Sisters and current Associates, to discern if Associate Life is a right fit for them.
Our groups have gathered monthly at Dominican Center Marywood at Aquinas College to pray together, share their life stories and journeys in faith, and learn about the Dominican story of faith, spirituality, and mission.
Members of the Dominican Order (Order of Preachers) have been on mission in the United States for more than two centuries. The mission given them by Domingo de Guzman (1170–1221) from the founding of the Order is to proclaim the word of God by preaching, teaching and example, while they are sustained by life in community.
Dominic preached the Gospel of love and compassion to all those he met. All Dominicans desire to preach with joy and make a difference in our world today.
