Healing Ourselves and Our World:

How Just Action Shapes our Spiritualities,

an Interfaith Conversation

Without action, our spirituality becomes lifeless and bears no authentic fruit. Without contemplation, all our doing comes from ego. They need and feed each other as components of a healthy dynamic relationship with Reality.”

~ Richard Rohr

Join us for our Interfaith Tuesday Table Talk, where we will be hearing from intergenerational multifaith voices and sharing our own as we discuss how the various actions we take for justice also shape our spiritualities and sense of ourselves. We will dialogue over dinner and throughout the evening on how the actions we take to heal our world not only express our values but inform them, and how they contribute to our inner healing—individually and communally.

Contemplative practice and social action have often been seen as disconnected and, in some cases, opposed. In the wake of tragedy or atrocity, one might see offers of “thoughts and prayers” countered by demands for “action and legislation.” And yet, both are necessary as we seek to advance justice.

Our contemplative life is the internal work that grounds our sense of identity and galvanizes our longing and hope for justice. The actions we take to heal our world are then external expressions of our internal spirituality and values – love and compassion lived out. Just as contemplation informs how and where we show up in the world, action, in turn, becomes a practice that shapes our spirituality and sense of self. When it comes to justice, healing ourselves and healing the world are two sides of the same coin – interrelated and interdependent.

Join us for this Interfaith Tuesday Table Talk, the second part of this year’s series. You do not need to have come to the first part held in May on “Seeing Contemplation as Justice” to participate in September! All are welcome to join us at the table.
