Completed in 2005, Marywood Health Center (MHC), the health care facility for the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids, models its healing ministry after that of Jesus by providing quality health care for residents.
Designed by the Perkins Eastman firm, there were three ambitions that guided the design of the MHC:
1. Balance the Sisters’ spiritual needs with a facility that’s marketable to the public as the Congregation requires less space
2. Produce a fresh concept for senior living
3. Utilize sustainable building practices
The MHC was designed and built to meet LEED NC-Silver criteria. Natural cork flooring for some areas, carpets made with plant fibers and backing from other natural products were chosen. Conservation of water is accomplished by re-circulating water throughout the building.
In 2006, the MHC was winner of Environmental Design + Construction’s Excellence in Design Award in the category of Multi-Family Residence. Read the article here.

Chapel of the Word is located in the Marywood Health Center provides a welcoming, prayerful environment for all. The Dominican traditions are evident in the liturgical design and artwork. It is a sacred space – serene and contemplative. As the seasons change, so too does the light and landscpe of our campus.
