The Dominican Family - A Place for All

The diverse membership of the Dominican Family—priests, nuns, Sisters, brothers, and lay people—act as a positive example in working together collaboratively for the sake of our holy preaching.

Vocation Minister Sister Kathi Sleziak demonstrates this Dominican Family gift as she recalls, “I experienced this first-hand while in Europe making the Lands of Dominic Pilgrimage. Our group visited the cloistered community in Caleruega, a small village in Spain, and when the nuns found out that three of us were from Grand Rapids, they immediately inquired about our Sisters Carol, Ardeth and Jackie, three of our peace and justice/non-violence advocates. The genuine concern and prayer these sisters held for their counterparts half a world away touched me and illustrated the ‘family’ to which I belong.

As Dominicans we have wonderful opportunities to collaborate with our Dominican sisters and brothers around the world in prayer, study, ministry and preaching and through organizations such as Dominican Sisters International, Dominican Leadership Conference, Dominican Federation, Dominican Alliance and the Parable Conference.”

The Dominican Family currently includes more than 32,000 sisters, 6,000 friars, 4,000 nuns, and 111,000 lay persons worldwide. Associates, volunteers, young adults, high school and college preachers add thousands more to those who are called to praise, to bless and to preach.
